If we look at the evolution of humans on the planet, we have grown drastically both in terms of population and intelligence. We have come to dominate every other species on the planet. Our lives are better organized than ever before. Now, the big question to ask ourselves is that, is this a good thing?
Let's get a few things into perspective
- We are the only species on the planet that is not environment friendly.
- No other species comes close to humans in terms of intelligence.
- Humans are the only species that can be conscious.
- Humans are the only species that can dictate their own destiny.
Ask yourself this question "Have we done more harm than good to the planet and ourselves?" don't jump to an answer immediately. Just look around, really looking at nature and at your own life.
All this is happening because however smart we think we are, we brush away real dangers like global warming, soil degradation, water scarcity etc. Don't take my word for it. Look at the scientific studies. Take a few days off from your virtual world and travel to a river or a village. Take to the locals, know about their problems. Ask them what problems they face.
We are under the illusion that water, groceries etc are available at the supermarket which we purchase for money. That is true, but remember they are not produced there.
When we are so good at financial planning, we should try this exercise. Take the statistics of natural resources, current and past data and do a projection. See how it looks in the next 25 years, next 50 years, next 100 years.
You will come to a realization that these are problems which require immediate attention.
